The Leg Lamp’s Origin Story The story begins when the crusty Old Man wins a newspaper contest about the greatest figures in American literature. Mom gives him the correct answer to a truly significant literary fact — the name of the Lone Ranger’s nephew’s horse: Victor.

A telegram informs the Old Man that he has won a “major award.” He dances a jig of jubilation in the living room, anticipating a magnificent prize, maybe even a deed for a bowling alley.

The award arrives at the Parker home in a wooden crate that says “his side up.” The production crew had to cut off the “T” of “This” stenciled on the crate to fit it through the front doorway. The crate is also marked “Fragile,” which the Old Man mispronounces as “Frah-JEE-lay” and suggests is Italian.

After unpacking the Major Award, he reveals a Leg Lamp. His wife is mortified, his kids are enamored, and he proudly displays it in the front window of his home for all to see. You too can be a part of this Major Award and display it for all to see
