JOLT Finance: Our Moonshot in Secure DeFi Lending

I’m excited to share details about my project, JOLT Finance, a new lending platform built on Optimism with the goal of redefining safety in the DeFi lending space. I developed JOLT Finance with a focus on addressing the critical issue of smart contract exploits that have affected many platforms in this space.

Why I Believe JOLT Finance Is a Moonshot

I created JOLT Finance to directly address common vulnerabilities in DeFi by introducing a human-only borrowing system. By using a whitelist approach, we significantly reduce the risks that have caused major losses on other platforms—particularly from flash loans and empty market attacks. If you’re familiar with these issues, you’ll immediately see the enhanced security our protocol offers.

In addition to its robust design, JOLT’s reward token avoids the extreme inflation seen in many other projects. Our innovative locking mechanism ensures long-term value: users who choose to sell their rewards must forfeit 50% of them to token lockers. This helps curb inflation and protects the value of your investment over time.

Key Security Enhancements and Innovations

• Battle-Tested Codebase: JOLT Finance is built on a fork of Aave’s proven codebase. This not only provides a robust starting point but also enables us to iterate quickly using technology that has already withstood the test of time.
• Elimination of Smart Contract Borrowing: By preventing non-whitelisted smart contracts from borrowing assets, I have reduced the potential for exploits. Although this approach may restrict some use cases, it brings a heightened level of security, which is more important.
• Additional Security Fixes: Beyond the whitelist, I have fixed the other known AAVE exploits which can lead to loss of funds – empty market attacks and flash loans.

Tokenomics and Community Governance

• Fair Token Distribution: 100,000 tokens are immediately burned. There are no team tokens to ensure fairness and to prevent any perceived insider advantages.
• Emission Model: The platform employs a phased emission model. We started with high emission rates to encourage early deposits and will gradually reduce them over time. This design is intended to maintain sustainable growth.
• Reward Mechanism: Approximately 40% of rewards are allocated to stakers, providing attractive yields while ensuring that liquidity suppliers also benefit.
• Community Governance: With DAO governance on the roadmap, JOLT Finance will empower token holders to have a say in future developments and security upgrades, such as implementing a Timelock Multisig and conducting comprehensive audits.
