Wanted to share this story with you all.
Last night, I was putting some work into the WANKA project. My wife walked behind the couch, holding what I assume was her third bowl of ice cream in one hand and bracing her very pregnant stomach with the other. She caught a glimpse of my screen and asked:
“What are you working on?”
I paused for a second. I hadn’t told her much about it yet, just that I might be working on something cool. So, I started explaining. I told her about the WANKA project, how I had been designing coin art and creating stickers.
She was interested but not quite getting it yet. Fair enough, it’s crypto, after all. She was probably thinking, “So this is what you choose to do in your free time?” She’s an amazing mother of two and an incredible wife. So, I kept going, trying to explain the heart of it, not just what WANKA is about, but what it IS.
As the words came out, something shifted. I wasn’t just talking anymore. I was thinking out loud.
I told her how WANKA has this charitable core, how part of its mission is to give back, with donations decided by the community. I explained how that small, seemingly simple idea, people coming together to support causes they care about, makes the whole project feel different.
And as I spoke, I felt it. This wasn’t just another project to work on. I was genuinely excited about it. Not some ramble in a Telegram group like this one. It was something with the potential to actually do good.
I realized that every design I would create, every coin design, every sticker, wasn’t just representing a brand. It was representing an idea that something as unpredictable and chaotic as a cryptocurrency project could still have a beating heart.
When I finished explaining, my wife smiled, and for a moment, neither of us said anything. Just thinking. I was half expecting my insane, enthusiastic yet hopefully tasteful word vomit to be met with:
“Cool.”
In that way only my wife can, the way that made me fall in love with her well over 20 years ago. (We’ve been married for four. I FUCKING HODL!). And honestly? I would have been fine with that.
But no.
She looked at me and said, “That sounds really special.”
And it is. It really is.
